SEO and the Cycles of Optimization

With SEO, being faster is not always better. When you are targeting competitive keywords, slow and steady wins the race. Just as what goes up must come down, understanding the dips, peaks and valleys of search engine algorithms and how they impact the search engine result pages is a work in progress.

You’ve heard of link velocity, but what about optimization velocity? Grasping the phases of optimization in layman’s terms can help you prepare for these cycles and use them to maximize the best possible trajectory for long-term SEO results.

The Ping Phase - Much like a love affair, this is the introduction or the courtship phase with search engines known as the fresh link factor. If you have a blog or an RSS feed whenever you publish or modify content, then your site can technically build its own backlinks as a result of aggregating itself through a feed (much like a broadcast).

SEM, Search Engines and The Art of Niche Marketing

One Page, One Subject.

Building a new website and looking for a good search engine results ranking is getting to be a major challenge, now that most subjects you can possibly think of are covered by a variety of pages. All the major subjects such as travel, sport, news and sales are covered by millions of web pages. This means that getting top search ranking is really difficult to achieve, and hence the growth in SEO services as authors battle it out for top spot on those all important google results pages.

Even when your subject matter is a little off the beaten track, you’ve probably found you’re locked in a search results battle with all sorts of other sites and related topics. This is where the niche window starts to open, when you see other results coming up next to yours that are not offering quite the same service or information that you are. There’s really no need to be in competition with these sites.

Deep Linking in Your Search Engine Marketing

If you are an experienced webmaster then you probably know that creating back links to your website is one of the best things that you can do to improve your Search Engine Ranking Placement (SERP). Google openly discusses the importance that their algorithms place on back links and even recommend that webmasters who want to improve their traffic use back links. Both Yahoo! and MSN are starting to talk openly about the importance of back links in their search algorithms as well.

There are a number of strategies that you can use to create back links to your website. Some of these strategies include emailing webmasters and asking them to place a link to your website, submitting your site to directories, distributing free reprint articles, and paying for links. All of these have their pros and cons, and some have a better success ratio than others.

Search Engine Optimization, WHY?

There are many articles written on the HOW of SEO, covering the many and varied aspects of the art of improving your site’s position in search engine ranking pages (SERPs). Whilst most people have heard the term “search engine optimization” and have a vague appreciation (or apprehension) of the hoped-for outcome, surprisingly few people seem to really understand WHY it is absolutely essential.

That includes a depressing number of website designers, some of whom actually tell their clients that SEO is a waste of time and money, and that it’s quite unnecessary these days because Google is smarter than ever before… Au contraire - it becomes more and more critical every day, as website numbers expand exponentially! Lack of knowledge is not confined to website designers, it also includes a number of wanna-be SEO firms who make outrageous claims about their special relationship and affinity with Google etc, but have little idea of what it takes to consistently succeed in attaining Top 30 rankings.

Frequently Used / Abused SEO Link Building Techniques

Search engine optimization (SEO) embraces multiple facets to produce viable shifts in rankings for specific keywords for the website in question. One of those facets is link building (a metric that uses link popularity and the authority of the referral to dictate a pecking order).

We all know SEO and positioning are important, but what are some of the more common link building techniques people use to promote their websites and build website authority. We will briefly discuss 5 frequently used and abused techniques for building links below, with their respective pros and cons.

1. Site wide links - Site wide links are when another website adds you to a portion of their website that is duplicated throughout the entire site. Areas like the footer, in their navigation, on the sidebar or (blogroll) as it is commonly called. As a result, if the website gains trust, authority or page rank from Google, the site being linked to gets a boost in the SERPS (search engine result pages).
